Asking Questions

The footage from our asylum trip isn't ready to share just yet, but I found a couple interesting things worth sharing.

First, former Ghost Hunters member Donna LaCroix speaks out against the show. I have to say this took me be surprise. I've certainly heard the rumors of TAPS faking evidence for the show, but I never imagined things had gotten so bad.

Second, we have more from HauntedHoax; a paranormal IQ test, and some words about matrixing and surveillance videos:

North Quad Laundry Room

Well, our trip to the asylum was fun but uneventful. With the end of the semester fast approaching, it looks like we won't get to go on any more trips this semester. In an attempt to do one more investigation, we're going to have an EVP session in the supposedly haunted ADK north laundry room.

So, this Saturday, Nov. 21st at around 11:55pm, we're going to start our investigation of the north quad laundry room. We might not find anything, but at the very least it should be mildly entertaining.

Asylum trip meeting place

Everyone who wants to go to the asylum on Nov. 7th, we'll be meeting up around 4:30pm at the main pick-up/drop-off point of the ADK parking lot, near the ADK lounge. We'll leave around 5pm, and return around 7pm. I encourage everyone to bring your digital camera if you have one, and let everyone know if you manage to snap a picture of something spooky.

Also, since it was requested, I'm going to see about getting us out to investigate the cemetery or Stanley Theatre before the semester is over. I'll let you know if I get any progress made there.

Utica Asylum Trip

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Our first planned trip of the semester! Woo! Better late than never.

The Utica Psychiatric Center has a lot of history, and allegedly a lot of ghosts as well. The building is condemned, so sadly we won't be able to go inside to investigate. However, there is still fun to be had exploring the grounds and taking photos of the majestic architecture. And who knows, maybe if we're lucky we'll see something unusual, too.

The trip will take place on Saturday, November 7th, the week after Halloween. We're going to start planning for the trip at this week's meeting, in the Campus Center, Tuesday night at 9:15pm. I've got a test poster I want some opinions on, and we need to see how many vehicles we have to work with for transporting people.

Meeting location change

We agreed on this at tonight's meeting, but just so it's in writing:

Next week, we meet at the Cat's Den. Sorry, I won't be buying you food.

More Locations

Shadowlands Haunted Places

This is probably a better list to work off of than the last one I linked to. Some of the best prospects on the list for Albany: the Capitol Building, the Education building, Professor Java's Coffee Sanctuary. And of course, there's always my old stomping grounds Marist College, but that's a bit farther away.

Locations in Utica: an old GE building, old psych ward, Stanley Theatre, and St. Agnes Cemetery. And I thought there was nothing to do around here. :)

I'll look into contacting some of these places to see if we can set up an investigation this month.

No Shortage of Locations

This page a friend referred me to has a ton of haunted locations in New York State. It takes a while to load, though, so maybe just wait for me to go over it at the meeting.

Speaking of which, we have a meeting tomorrow night in the ADK lounge. I mentioned this, right? Hope to see you there.

ADK Lounge Reserved

Meeting in the lounge this week. Still Tuesday at 9:15.

A ghost hunting store?

The Ghost Hunter Store

I never knew such a thing existed, but this may be a good option for us when we start looking into buying equipment.

Ghost Pictures and Videos

AngelsGhosts.com has a number of interesting pictures, as well as links to many ghost sighting videos.

And here's the video we watched at last week's meeting. It's pretty informative.

Possible Locations

Just a heads-up for anyone who has missed a few meetings, these are the places we're looking into going to right now:

Glen Sanders Mansion

Education Building

Ghost Walks (Saratoga Springs)

There may be others by next meeting, though. I'll bring it up on Tuesday.

We're official

New clubs were activated this past Thursday at the SA meeting. So, I'll probably start on some preliminary posters now. Keep your eyes peeled.

Also, we've got Donovan G152 reserved for Tuesday night. For those who haven't been there, it's on the bottom floor of Donovan right by the doors. You can't miss it.

New Year, New Management

Greetings, ghost hunters. This is Dan Mayer, new president of the SUNYIT Paranormal Investigators, or IT PI if you're into the whole abbreviation thing.

So, for those of you just joining us, here's a quick recap of what's been going on since the new semester started:

  • Since Brett is busy with RA stuff this year, he elected to give up his seat as club president. I was voted in as new president, along with Vice-President Tapia and Secretary Dwayne, and Wen is still our treasurer.

  • At the time of this post, we're a mere three days away from becoming an official college organization. Awesome.

  • Starting September 29th 2009, meetings will occur on Tuesday nights at 9:15pm in Donovan G152.

  • We have a few possible ideas for locations to investigate, but haven't made any progress yet on convincing anyone to let us come snoop around. Keep your fingers crossed.

  • Z-day again this year? One would hope.

  • Anyone who has heard about the club and wants to hear more, send an email to sunyit.paranormal.investigators AT gmail DOT com, and I'll add you to our mailing list for group updates and stuff.

  • Lastly, since I'm a regular blogger, I think we'll be getting more use out of this club blog from now on. If anyone else wants to help out by writing their own posts for the PI blog, email me and I'll add you to the authors list.

I wrote a couple pages of stuff about the paranormal a while back, in case anyone's interested. We'll probably be discussing these and other things at future meetings.

If you have any questions/comments/complaints/inebriated rants, I can be reached at the group email above, or at my personal email: danmayerisgod@hotmail.com

Happy Hunting!

Members, I Know You're on Break, But...

Hey members. I know that you're all enjoying your spring break this week, and a well deserved break it is. However, we do have to ask for your help.

At our last meeting we asked that all members spend about an hour or two emailing or calling a place or two for investigations sites to go to before the semester ends. If you get anything promising, forward us the info/e-mails.
We also need people to work at the 50-50 raffle once we get back from break. We will be holding the raffle Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for about three weeks. Tables will be in the Campus Center from 12:00 to 6:00, and in Donovan (outside the Basement Bistro, by the bottom of the stairs) from 12:00 to 4:00. We need at least two people at each of the tables while they are open. I would like everyone to volunteer at least two to three hours of time each week. Please e-mail us with your availability or leave a comment here. Schedules will be posted here and e-mailed before Monday, or as soon as I get them completed.

Other than that, enjoy break everyone!

Updates

Here are some updates on SUNY IT PI from the last few meetings:

- We have been listed on www.ghostfiles.org as a contact for people within New York state who are looking for investigators.
- We will be holding a 50-50 raffle after spring break. Tables will be located in Donovan (12:00 to 4:00) and the Campus Center (12:00 to 6:00) on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for about three weeks. We are looking for some additional club members to work - so if you have a hour or two open and would like to work please let us know.
- Z-Day is coming! Are you ready? Planning will be underway shortly. Members look for an e-mail about a planning meeting soon.
- We will be ordering equipment once we return from spring break and will begin training with it once it arrives.

More news as it comes in!

Members! As a reminder our meeting place has been moved to Donovan room G152, still at 10:00 pm.

Welcome!

Welcome to the blog for the SUNY IT Paranormal Investigators Group.
We are a group of students, based out of the SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, New York. Our mission is to better understand, through observation and scientific analysis, "paranormal activities".
We do not hunt ghosts, we look for answers, scientific or paranormal. We seek to attempt to find scientific explanations for perceived phenomena, and if no such explanations can be found, we attempt to determine what type of paranormal activity it may be and how it may be handled or dealt with.

For more information on our activities, goals and services, e-mail us a sunyit.paranormal.investigators@gmail.com
